Rovos Rail

Rovos Rail’s coaches are from the 1920's and 30's, the Pride of Africa, and are now owned by Mr Rohan Vos who has had them restored and refurnished with a touch of exquisite style and comfort. First class service is offered resulting in a 5 Star Hotel on rails. The use of the traditional furnishings and period décor, with top class craftsmanship evident in fine wood paneling, has ensured that the atmosphere of elegance and grandeur far exceeds the original. Each train has two lounge cars, one a unique glass ended observation car and two dining cars a 1920’s period piece with romantic teak pillars and a more modern 1936 model one with traditional picture windows offering guests a panoramic view of the passing African landscape. The sleeper coaches are the last word in luxury. Each suite accommodates two people with the option of twin or double beds, with a private lounge area. In the ensuite bathrooms original fittings are combined with the modern technology of hot showers, hair dryers and shaver plugs. The Royal Suites, each of which takes up half a carriage, are named after colourful characters of the Victorian era in South Africa, including Cecil John Rhodes, Barney Barnato and Alfred Beit. Very spacious and elegant the Royal Suites measure 16sq ms in size and even come with a Victorian Claw foot bathtub. The Deluxe Suites restored with the same care as the Royal Suites, also accommodate two passengers in either double or twin beds, with ensuite bathrooms and a lounge area. Each Suite is 11sq ms.
